What are they? Your Passions?
What is it that empowers you to say, this is what I want to do, what I want to be, or where I need to be? I mean do you even know what you're passionate about?
Hey, it's okay if you don't know yet or if you are exploring different things. Everyone discovers what they are passionate about at different stages in life. I mean it can happen at two years old or at sixty years young. Some of us are blessed to discover what we are passionate about early in life while others don't realize it until we are older. So that brings up the question, what does it mean to be passionate about something?
Let's first dive into what it means to be or feel passionate about something. According to Merriam-Webster, "Passion is a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept." So your true passion can be based or focused around anything. You can have a passion for art, sewing, discovering new techniques of doing things, solving problems, and pretty much everything else out there in the world. Let's take someone who goes to a regular nine-to-five, and works around the clock to solve problems and create solutions to accomplish daily production; does this make this person simply good at their job or does it make them passionate about their job?
Guess what? It's BOTH. Why? No one becomes exceptionally great at something without being passionate about it. Yes, we all have our values of integrity, what is right and wrong, and the ability to complete the task at hand but at the end of the day, if we are not passionate about what we are doing, we're not going to be great at it and that greatness that we feel becomes fulfillment. It becomes "The Thing" that makes you say, I can't wait to do this today. I can't wait to start creating, making new things, discovering new techniques, or learning something new. That thing is called "Passion."
We all have something that we are passionate about. Something that we enjoy doing without remorse. We enjoy doing it and go above and beyond to complete it without giving it a second thought. It's the thing that will make us want to learn more and become better at what we are doing. Now, are there steps to finding out what you are passionate about, Maybe? One can argue there are right and wrong ways but guess what. What's right for you may not be what's right for the next person and vice versa. So in essence, we have to create the best path for ourselves to get to where we achieve fulfillment. This is going to take some research on our life situations, harsh realizations, our strengths and weaknesses, our vulnerability, and A.I.M.E!
Because whether we want to believe it or not, everything that exists around us, that affects us is going to have an impact on who, what, when, where, why, and how we pursue our passions. So take a break, get out your paper and pen, and take note of things you're great at, good at, and suck at. Cross-reference that with what you're knowledgeable about and then passionate about. Talk about it out loud with yourself. You will start to uncover the thing that makes you feel alive. Once you uncover those passions, you'll be fast on your journey and process to pursuing them.
